TEMPELHOF AIRPORT Architectural and construction drawings from the years 1936 to 1963

A virtual exhibition of the Archiv Flughafen Tempelhof / Tempelhof Projekt GmbH 

The closure of Tempelhof Airport left behind not only a vast field in the centre of Berlin and an architectural monument of enormous proportions, but also a considerable building archive. After the end of flight operations in October 2008, it was left behind by the Berlin Airport Company, which was founded in 1924. The following exhibition shows a small selection of the several thousand construction drawings, focussing on three central construction phases in the genesis of the site.

Günther Victor - Prince, hunter, gardener. A photo exhibition on the 100th anniversary of the death of the last Prince of Schwarzburg

A virtual exhibition of the Landesarchiv Thüringen - Staatsarchiv Rudolstadt 

Günther Victor von Schwarzburg, the last Prince of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and Schwarzburg-Sondershausen, died 100 years ago, on 16 April 1925. After the November Revolution of 1918, he was one of the last German princes to abdicate his throne.

The everyday life of the princely couple is extensively documented by the estate of Princess Anna Luise von Schwarzburg, which was transferred to the Rudolstadt State Archives after her death in 1951. This includes diary entries as well as a large collection of photographs that the princess, who was interested in this technical innovation, took from 1891 onwards. The following photo exhibition is intended to provide a brief insight into the princely life of Günther Victor and his wife.

Unchanged undershirt?! A virtual tour through the product history of the white undershirt from 1884 to 1991

A virtual exhibition of the Hanro-Sammlung, Archäologie und Museum Baselland and the BSP Business and Law School Berlin 

The Hanro Collection, which comprises around 20,000 textile objects at the original site of the former Swiss textile company, offers a unique insight into the design, production and commercial history of underwear. The so-called Cache Corset was one of the first products of the tricot manufacturer Handschin & Ronus (Hanro) and is also the oldest textile item in the Hanro collection. It marked the transition from corsets to functional, comfortable underwear and anticipated much of what later characterised design classics such as the Cotton Seamless.

Troisdorf businesses: CONFECTIONERY and CAFÉ BREUER

A virtual exhibition of the Stadtarchiv Troisdorf 

To launch our new “Troisdorf businesses” series, we are presenting a virtual exhibition about the Café Breuer confectionery in Kölner Straße, which was part of Troisdorf's townscape for almost 100 years from 1913 to 2006. The texts on the various exhibits are based on an interview conducted by archive employee Christian Fuchs with master confectioner Paul Hebbecker, the former owner of Café Breuer. In the course of the exhibition, Paul Hebbecker recounts the history of the café, piece by piece. He explains why his grandparents chose Troisdorf as the location, talks about successes and challenges for the family and the business and reveals which specialty the confectionery delivered to the whole of Europe at times.

End of the war 1944/1945: Koblenz remembers

A selection of eyewitness accounts is presented in excerpts in the following small exhibition, contextualized historically in the necessary brevity and supplemented with appropriate (historical) illustrations. As with all sources from other historical eras, the statements, choice of words, and formulations in the memories published here must be accepted and understood as expressions of past thinking and feelings, i.e., as “contemporary,” and their authors as “children of their time.”

This exhibition is expressly not about historical facts and data, but about the very personal perceptions, experiences, and (re)thinking, as well as the individual attributions and interpretations of the people who lived through this period here in Koblenz.

Country life in black and white. Photos from the estate of Ludwig Hermann Klack

A virtual exhibition by the Kreisarchiv Gütersloh

Ludwig Hermann Klack grew up with eight siblings on a farm in Bockhorst-Siedinghausen, now districts of Versmold in the district of Gütersloh. From 1950 onwards, he founded several bookstores in the former districts of Halle and Bielefeld. In the years before that, he helped out on the family farm until his brother returned from captivity as a prisoner of war. Starting in the 1930s, he used a Leica camera to photograph village and family celebrations as well as everyday life on the farms in what was then the Versmold district and the surrounding area.

Using photos, documents, and interviews with contemporary witnesses, this historical exhibition looks back at the town's origins and the celebrations in January 1950, during which the town charter was presented. What obstacles had to be overcome to get there? And why did the communities of Greven left and Greven right of the Ems only become part of the city of Greven later on?
