Bells, church bells in particular open up a universe. The sound of bells connects heaven and earth, accompanies life, can be heard at baptisms and funerals. Tolling bells used to structure the day. And the sound of bells is a touching one. The bell exhibition of the Regional Church Archives Kassel spans the arc from the Lullus bell in Hersfeld (11th century) to the carillon of the Karlskirche in Kassel, thus covering about one thousand years of bell history.

The virtual exhibition shows a small selection from the approximately 200 new acquisitions of Nuremberg City Archives from 2020 to 2022. Photos, letters, postcards, maps and plans, engravings and sketchbooks enrich and illustrate our knowledge of the past: Take off in Blanchard's balloon, be evicted from Schmausenbuck, visit the Ratskeller around 1900, fly over the Old Town for the first time or see Nuremberg by night; learn about life as a socialist poet during the Nazi era, about messages from the front of the Second World War or a person's return from the Gulag - but also about artificial Christmas trees, the reconstruction of the destroyed city and today's architectural photography.
The long road to Gütersloh District Hall

On 1 January 1973 the district of Gütersloh is formed from the districts of Halle (Westf.) and Wiedenbrück as well as the town of Harsewinkel and the municipality of Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock. This means that two district administrations have to be merged into one, with headquarters in Gütersloh. A district hall in Gütersloh needs to be built - and quickly! Lengthy discussions ensue so that, in the end, the planning and construction of the district hall will take 25 years.
