The chronicle describes the events of the war from the end of 1940 to September 1944. The years 1945 and 1946 are only discussed in retrospect in a supplement. While other elementary school chronicles also describe the events of these years vividly, the Merten chronicle contains a special feature: 53 Allied leaflets are pasted into the chronicle.

The fashion drawing is the oldest medium for the visualization of clothing and an indispensable basis within the design process. The exhibition "Berlin Fashion Sketches" shows individual highlights of the Berlin design tradition and makes its continuation visible into the recent past. Numerous cross-connections between the actors point to the evolved tradition of Berlin fashion education.
