The online collection “Rechte Gewalt” visualizes and contextualizes archival sources on violence motivated by misanthropic ideologies such as racism, antisemitism, or misogyny. It brings together scattered collections from government and civil society archives and makes them available in a shared research and presentation space.
The goal is to provide a comprehensive understanding of this violence in terms of its scope, historical depth, and social context. The portal is not intended to be a definitive record, but rather a gateway to various accounts and perspectives. It enables users to research cases, developments, and continuities of right-wing violence after 1945 and to connect them with one another.
By combining archival data, editorial analysis, and search functions, the thematic portal creates a central infrastructure that brings together scattered collections online. It is precisely the combination of government and civil society sources that enables a more complete and nuanced picture. In this way, the online collection provides a foundation for research, political education, and public discourse. In particular, it also takes into account the perspectives of those affected, to the extent that they are reflected in historical sources or freely available knowledge.
The online collection “Rechte Gewalt” is overseen by the Federal Archives and supported by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media as part of a project running through the end of 2026. The Baden-Württemberg State Archives, through its Documentation Center on Right-Wing Extremism, is involved in developing the portal’s content. FIZ Karlsruhe is assisting with the technical implementation and further development.
